How Much Does ADHD Testing Cost in Colorado?

Prices for ADHD testing vary widely, and it's hard to compare when you don't know what's included. Here's what drives the cost, and what testing costs at Walker Psychological Services.

Why ADHD testing costs what it does

A comprehensive ADHD evaluation is several hours of a licensed psychologist's time, and most of that time happens outside the testing room. The cost covers:

  • An intake interview about your history, current struggles, and what you want answered.
  • Testing, usually 2 to 5 hours of standardized measures of attention, working memory, processing speed, executive functioning, and mood.
  • Input from others, such as rating scales from a parent, partner, or teacher.
  • Scoring and interpretation, including ruling out anxiety, depression, sleep problems, learning disorders, and other conditions that can look like ADHD.
  • A written report with a diagnosis, if one fits, and practical recommendations.
  • A feedback session to walk through the results and next steps.

Comprehensive evaluation vs. a quick screening

Some services diagnose ADHD after a short appointment and a questionnaire, which costs less. Screening tools are useful, but they can't tell ADHD apart from the many conditions that cause the same symptoms. A comprehensive evaluation costs more because it answers the harder questions: is it ADHD, something else, or more than one thing? It also produces documentation that schools, testing agencies, and employers accept for accommodations. Read why overlapping symptoms matter.

What testing costs at Walker Psychological Services

  • Comprehensive psychological testing, self-pay: $2,900. This includes the intake, testing, feedback session, and written report.
  • Same-day results: an additional +$600, paid when you book to reserve your appointment. Standard results take about two to three weeks after testing.
  • Learning disorder testing added to an evaluation: +$750. Insurance does not cover learning disorder testing.

Self-pay clients have the right to a Good Faith Estimate of costs before services begin.

Using insurance

Many insurance plans cover ADHD testing when it's done to diagnose a condition and guide treatment. Dr. Walker is in network with Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Carelon Behavioral Health, Cigna (testing only), Curative, First Health, UnitedHealthcare / Optum / UBH, and UMR. What you pay depends on your deductible, copay or coinsurance, and whether your plan requires prior authorization. Here's how to check your benefits.

Ways to make testing more affordable

  • Check your in-network benefits first. Testing covered by your plan usually costs far less than self-pay.
  • Ask your plan about out-of-network benefits if your provider isn't in network.
  • Health savings and flexible spending accounts can often be used for psychological testing. Check with your plan administrator.
  • If you already have recent testing, bring it. It can save time and avoid repeating measures.
