How ADHD presents
Mental health professionals diagnose ADHD based on three recognized presentations. Symptoms must be present in multiple settings, such as school, work, and home.
Predominantly inattentive
- Difficulty sustaining attention
- Easily distracted
- Forgetfulness in daily activities
- Trouble with organization
- Often loses things needed for tasks
Predominantly hyperactive-impulsive
- Frequent fidgeting or restlessness
- Difficulty sitting still for long periods
- Interrupting or blurting out answers
- Acting without thinking
- Excessive talking
A combined presentation includes both inattentive and hyperactive-impulsive traits.
After testing
Evaluation results help guide treatment recommendations, which may include therapy, academic accommodations, or consultation with medical providers. Results are only shared with your doctor, school, or employer with your written consent.
