Remote Psychological Testing

For adults who can't easily get to Arvada, almost every evaluation we offer can be done by secure video from home, in Colorado or a participating PSYPACT state. Same-day results are available.

At a glance

  • For adults 18 and older. Children and teens test in person in Arvada.
  • You must be in Colorado or a participating PSYPACT state during each session.
  • Every evaluation except learning disability testing is available remotely, using the same tests as in the office.
  • Same-day results are available by video for an additional $600.
  • Insurance may cover remote testing if your plan covers telehealth testing and we are in network.

Testing across state lines with PSYPACT

PSYPACT, the Psychology Interjurisdictional Compact, lets licensed psychologists provide telehealth across state lines in participating states. Dr. Walker holds Authority to Practice Interjurisdictional Telepsychology (APIT 8671) from the PSYPACT Commission, so adults in many states can work with her by video without traveling to Colorado.

The rule that matters is where you are during each session. You need to be physically located in Colorado or a participating state for the intake, the testing session, and the feedback session. Check the current PSYPACT map, since states continue to join.

What to expect

  1. Intake by video (60 minutes)

We review your background questionnaire, talk through your questions, and choose the tests for your evaluation.

  2. Testing session by video (2 to 5 hours)

A psychologist gives the tests live over secure video, with breaks. Some questionnaires are completed online before or after the session.

  3. Feedback by video (60 minutes)

We review your results, diagnostic impressions, and recommendations. Your report is typically ready about one week after testing, or the same day with same-day results.

How to prepare

  • Use a laptop or desktop with a webcam and microphone, not a phone or tablet.
  • Test your internet connection and plug in your computer before the session.
  • Find a quiet, private room with a door, where you can be alone for the whole session.
  • Clear your desk completely. No pen, pencil, or paper, and don't write anything down during testing unless we ask you to.
  • Keep your phone, notes, and other screens out of reach unless we ask for them.
  • Have a photo ID, glasses or hearing aids if you use them, water, and a snack ready.
  • Know the address where you will be, and have an emergency contact. We confirm both at the start of each session.
  • Get a good night's sleep and eat a balanced meal beforehand.
  • Do not take any stimulant medication the day of testing.

What you can test for remotely

These evaluations can be done by video for adults, with the same tests, report, and recommendations as in the office:

Learning disability testing is the one exception. It is done at our Arvada office, including when it's added to another evaluation. Prefer to come in for any evaluation? Office visits are always available. See our location.

Questions

Who can test remotely?
Adults 18 and older, for every evaluation we offer except learning disability testing, which is done at our Arvada office. Children and teens are also seen at the office.
What is PSYPACT?
PSYPACT is an agreement among participating states that lets licensed psychologists provide telehealth services across state lines. Dr. Walker holds Authority to Practice Interjurisdictional Telepsychology (APIT 8671) from the PSYPACT Commission. See the participating states.
Do I have to be in Colorado?
You need to be physically located in Colorado or another participating PSYPACT state during every session, including the intake, testing, and feedback. What counts is where you are during the session, not where you live. If you will be traveling, let us know before you schedule.
Can I get same-day results remotely?
Yes. Same-day results are available by video for an additional $600, paid when you book to reserve your appointment. The fee is non-refundable and not reimbursable by insurance. More on same-day results.
Will my insurance cover remote testing?
It may. If your plan covers psychological testing by telehealth and we are in network with it, we can bill your insurance as usual. Coverage for out-of-state plans varies, so please call your insurer before your intake. Self-pay testing is $2,900. Fees and insurance.
Is remote testing as accurate as testing in person?
You take the same tests remotely that you would take in the office, given live by a psychologist over secure video. Your report has the same structure, diagnoses, and recommendations as an in-person evaluation.
Can I use my phone or a tablet?
Please use a laptop or desktop computer with a webcam and microphone. Some tests show material on screen, and a phone screen is too small for them.
