If you pay yourself

Comprehensive psychological testing is $2,900 and includes the testing session, scoring, a written report, and your feedback session. Same-day results are an additional $600, paid as a non-refundable deposit. Self-pay clients are entitled to a Good Faith Estimate of costs before services begin. Intake and other rates are on the Insurance and Fees page.

If you use insurance

Many insurance plans cover psychological testing. Coverage depends on your plan, the reason for testing, and whether it is considered medically necessary. Dr. Walker is in network with:

  • Aetna
  • Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield
  • Carelon Behavioral Health
  • Cigna (testing only)
  • Curative
  • First Health
  • UnitedHealthcare / Optum / UBH
  • UMR

With other plans, out-of-network benefits may apply.

Learning disorder testing is self-pay. Insurance does not cover testing for learning disorders because it isn't considered medically necessary. A standalone learning disorder evaluation is $1,800. When added to another evaluation, such as for ADHD or autism, it is an additional $750.

Questions to ask your insurer

  • Is psychological testing covered under my plan? The common testing billing codes are 96130, 96131, 96136, and 96137.
  • Do I need prior authorization?
  • How much of my deductible is left, and what is my copay or coinsurance for testing?
  • Is Walker Psychological Services in network for my plan?

A quote of benefits doesn't guarantee payment. You are responsible for costs your plan doesn't cover.

Cost and insurance questions

Does insurance cover psychological testing?
Many insurance plans cover psychological testing, but coverage depends on the provider, reason for testing, and specific insurance policy. Insurance does not cover testing for learning disorders because it isn't considered medically necessary. A quote of benefits is not a guarantee of payment. You will be responsible for any cost not covered by insurance.
Is testing for school or test accommodations covered?
Sometimes. Insurance generally covers testing that is medically necessary, such as testing to diagnose a condition and guide treatment. Testing done only for educational purposes or accommodations may not be covered.
Do I need prior authorization?
Some plans require prior authorization before testing. Ask your insurer when you call, and we will let you know what your plan needs.
Is the same-day results fee covered by insurance?
No. Same-day results are an additional $600, paid as a non-refundable deposit, and are not reimbursable by insurance.
What if my insurance doesn't cover testing?
Private-pay options are available. See Insurance and Fees for details.
What is a Good Faith Estimate?
Self-pay clients are entitled to a Good Faith Estimate of costs before services begin.
