Adult autism testing
Autism Testing for Adults
Most autism testing is built for children. Ours is designed for adults, including people who have spent years masking, were missed as kids, or have always felt different without knowing why.
At a glance
- Testing for adults who were never evaluated, or were evaluated and not diagnosed, as children. No referral is required.
- Comprehensive testing is $2,900. Many insurance plans cover psychological testing.
- Same-day results are available for an additional $600. Standard results typically take two to three weeks after testing.
- Remote testing is limited and considered case by case.
How autism can show up in adults
- Feeling drained after social time, even with people you like
- Working hard to follow unspoken social rules or small talk
- Being overwhelmed by noise, light, textures, or crowds
- Needing routines, and feeling thrown when plans change
- Deep, focused interests
- Burnout, shutdowns, or meltdowns after long stretches of coping
Many adults, especially women and nonbinary people, learned to mask their traits to fit in at school or work. Masking can hide autism from others and from yourself, and it often comes at a cost to energy and mental health.
What adult autism testing evaluates
- Social communication and relationships
- Sensory experiences
- Routines, interests, and flexibility
- Developmental history, as far as it can be gathered
- Anxiety, mood, ADHD, and other concerns that can overlap with autism
How the evaluation works
The process has three steps: an intake session, a testing session of 2 to 5 hours, and a feedback session where we review your written report and recommendations. More about the testing process.
After testing
Your report explains what the results mean for work, relationships, and daily life, with practical recommendations. With your written consent, it can be shared with your doctor, therapist, employer, or college. Some adults go on to therapy or seek accommodations. Others simply feel validated knowing why they have always felt different.
