Testing for School, College, and Test Accommodations

A psychological evaluation can document ADHD, a learning disability, autism, or another condition, along with the specific supports that would help, for schools, colleges, testing agencies, and employers.

At a glance

  • For students and adults 8 years and older. No referral is required.
  • Evaluations for ADHD, learning disabilities, autism, and mood or other mental health concerns.
  • Same-day results are available for certain evaluations when a deadline is close.
  • Check the requirements of the school, college, or testing agency before you schedule.

Who uses these evaluations

K–12 students

Results can inform an Individualized Education Program (IEP) or a 504 plan, such as extended time, a quieter testing room, or breaks.

College and graduate students

Campus disability services offices usually ask for current documentation of a diagnosis and how it affects learning.

Standardized tests

Agencies for the ACT, SAT, LSAT, MCAT, GRE, and other exams review documentation before approving accommodations.

Work and licensing

Results can support workplace accommodations or accommodations on professional licensing exams.

What to bring to your intake

  • The documentation guidelines from your school, college, or testing agency
  • Any deadline you are working toward
  • Previous evaluations, IEPs, or 504 plans
  • Report cards, transcripts, or past test scores, if you have them

How the evaluation works

The process has three steps: an intake session, a testing session of 2 to 5 hours, and a feedback session where we review your written report and recommendations. Your report includes your diagnosis, if one applies, test results, and specific recommendations. More about the testing process.

With your written consent, the report can be shared with a school team, a disability services office, or a testing agency.

Accommodations testing questions

Will testing guarantee accommodations?
No. Schools, colleges, testing agencies, and employers make their own decisions. A thorough evaluation with clear documentation gives them what they need to consider your request.
How recent does an evaluation need to be?
It depends on who you are asking. Testing agencies and colleges set their own rules about how recent documentation must be and what it should include. Check their guidelines before you schedule and bring them to your intake.
I have a deadline coming up. Can testing be done quickly?
Same-day results are available for certain evaluations for an additional $600 deposit, which is not reimbursable by insurance. Learn about same-day results.
Does insurance cover testing for accommodations?
Sometimes. Insurance generally covers testing that is medically necessary, such as testing to diagnose a condition and guide treatment. Testing done only for school or test accommodations may not be covered, and testing for learning disorders is not covered. Call your insurer to check. How testing costs and insurance work.
What is a Good Faith Estimate?
Self-pay clients are entitled to a Good Faith Estimate of costs before services begin.
